I believe that LESS IS MORE. We all accumulate personal belongings along the way, and many of us come to a point where it feels overwhelming.

I'm here to help.

I try and make it easy, fun and pleasant to help you and your family declutter rooms and organize what's in those rooms so that you feel a bit "lighter" and more in control.  You keep what you really want to but don't feel burdened by what you feel you "ought" to keep.  I also find ways to organize better what you want to keep (such as  samples of children's artwork or schoolwork).

I can also help you plan special events and do the home-related tasks that can feel overwhelming.

I've had a varied professional life.  I have worked in the nonprofit world for many years designing programs, special events, fundraising and marketing organizations to the larger community.

During the last 18 years, through my company Spencer Films, I have also been producing and directing documentary films, most recently short films for non-profit organizations.  You can see some of my work here.

I enjoy helping people organize, plan, and do the tasks that can feel overwhelming. I  look forward to speaking with you about how I might be of help.



Home Organizing

I help you ascertain what items you want to keep and what items you can give away (donate to good causes) or give to family or friends).  Some things get recycled; some get put in the trash.

As an added benefit, I will take bags and boxes to thrift stores or places like More Than Words (which take books) for you, so you don't have to deal with taking the time to go to those places.

How I Help

Event Planning

I help  you plan or organize a birthday, B-mitzvah, anniversary party, or small wedding.

I can do as much or as little as you would like, and we work together to make sure the event is just what you want.

My services include:

  • Hiring a caterer

  • Designing a menu in consultation with you

  • Helping you create and choose an electronic invitation service

  • Finding a venue (if it's not in your home)

  • Hiring servers

  • Renting items that you may need

  • Helping create a program for the evening (if you wish)

  • Serving as the point person during the event

  • Taking care of clean up

Paperwork/Home Tasks

I can help you create an online bill pay system and help you get ebills instead of paper bills to lessen the paper accumulation in your home.

I can also help you design a filing system that makes sense for you, while eliminating extra paper, bills, etc. you don't need.

Additionally, I can help you get off endless mailing lists, decreasing the amount of junk mail you receive.

Other services:

  • Get pictures framed for you (I know a guy!)

  • Hang up pictures on your walls 

  • Move furniture around

  • Research and order items online.

  • Take photos and sell things online via Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

  • Go to storage lockers and help you clean out the items there.



We have worked with Jen Kaplan on several home organizing projects. The biggest one was moving from one home in Newton to another. We were merging two households and had lots and lots of stuff.  Jen was hard working, detail oriented and fun to work with.  She helped us pare things down, made suggestions of what to toss and listened to us if we felt differently.  She helped us pack up, and then unpack in our new home.  We highly recommend Jen as a home organizer, and we’d happily work with her again.

It is impossible to overstate how much Jen has helped in tackling the long-neglected tasks of purging and reorganizing numerous closets and drawers in my home that have accumulated who knows what over the decades (not to mention the attic full of documents dating back to the Clinton administration).

Jen’s expertise goes beyond her organizational skills. We have worked side by side to create a tidy and functional environment where I have learned to differentiate memorabilia from clutter! We have sorted photographs, organized kids artwork, emptied storage lockers, and shredded documents.

Jen is tireless and truly does all the heavy lifting. Jen is incredibly resourceful—from framing to furniture repair to donations and recycling—she knows it all.
